Pickering Community Banner Program
All designs must be submitted by the 2nd Thursday of September.
The Pickering Community Banner Program celebrates the culture, heritage and beauty of our City. The City of Pickering invites Canadian artists of all ages, or artist teams, to submit artwork (old or new) to be used for the Community Banner Program. Using a single or a variety of mediums, artists are asked to highlight the cultural, heritage, and diversity of the City of Pickering through the annual theme. The 2022 theme is “The Nature and Culture of Pickering”.
Up to 35 Community banners will be selected through an open call for art. Call for 2022 is now open. Selected banners will be installed throughout City Centre (Esplanade North, Esplanade South, Valley Farm Road, Glenanna Road, Kingston Road) in early December 2022.
Selected artwork will be shown online at pickering.ca/culture. The archive will include an image of the banner designs, along with the artist’s statement and name. Banners will be hung, for a period of one year. Banners in excellent condition may be re-purposed, or removed to make room for next set of selected entries.
A $150 honorarium will be paid for selected amateur and community submissions. A $350 fee will be paid to professional artists for their selected submissions; professional artists must submit current CV, or resume to qualify for the professional artist fee at the time of submission; and prior to the submission deadline to email@example.com.
