Partnership Program

Toronto Arts Council has partnered with Toronto Public Library (TPL) to facilitate the animation of five library spaces outside the downtown core, increase arts access in local communities, and create new work and collaborative opportunities for Toronto artists. Toronto Public Library is contributing matching support in the form of space, technical support, marketing, promotion, social networking platforms, and staffing.

 Community Story Collective

Artists in the Library recipient, Don Mills Branch

The Community Story Collective will complete a project called Library Stories that will teach internet skills and storytelling using digital storytelling methods. Library Stories will engage participants of all ages to talk about their lives and make connections in person and online at Don Mills Branch.

 Expect Theatre Inc                                

Artists in the Library recipient, York Woods Branch

Expect Theatre Inc will complete a four month radio drama residency that includes training in, and the creation of an episodic podcast that will be written, performed, and recorded by local community members at York Woods Branch.

 Dara Gellman

Artists in the Library recipient, Cedarbrae Library  

Dara Gelman's Tangible Cloud is a collaborative, multi-medium visual arts project that visualizes the richness of human interactions and ideas that flow into, out of, and around the library. The Tangible Cloud engages Cedarbrae Library and its community in physically creating a visual record of the cloud of ideas they create through their presence and participation as library patrons.

 Rukhsana Khan

Artists in the Library recipient, Downsview Library

Rukshana Khan's three month residency involves storytelling, story writing workshops and presentations that teach necessary skills. Emphasis is placed on follow-up and critique. This workshop is happening at Downsview Library.

 Mixed Company Theatre

Artists in the Library recipient, Mimico Centennial Branch  

Mixed Company Theatre will create an inter-generational community arts performance to shed light on the eclectic diversity of the neighbourhood of Mimico Centennial Branch, focusing on inter-cultural and inter-generational interactions.

From ‘Look at Them Here’ series
 Zeesy Powers              

Artists in the Library recipient, Oakwood Village Library and Arts Centre

Zeesy Powers will work with children, youth and adults in collecting images from the Library's children’s books. Participants will write stories and music and make animation with the images, which will be part of a public presentation activated by live performers at Oakwood Village Library and Arts Centre.

 Pneuma Ensemble

Artists in the Library recipient, Fairview Branch                             

Pneuma Ensemble will introduce the community to medieval music and cultural history through a multi-disciplinary, interactive program including musical and dramatic workshops and programming in Fairview Branch.

 Puppetmongers Theatre

Artists in the Library recipient, Hillcrest Branch                 

Puppetmongers Theatre will engage library patrons from youth to seniors at Hillcrest Branch in puppetry through workshops that teach puppet-building, skills on producing successful puppet shows and building a puppet theatre.  The project will culminate with a community event to showcase the skills that have been learned.

 Toronto Animated Image Society

Artists in the Library recipient, Scarborough Civic Centre

Toronto Animated Image Society will organize workshops using their portable animation station for the public at Scarborough Civic Centre. Animators will work with the community creating animations based on the cultural landscape of the area.

Paul Stewart will involve children and adults from the local community in a series of clay sculptural workshops at Richview Branch.
