Strategic Allocation

TAC introduced its new Open Door process in 2014 as a means of responding to important and timely arts sector initiatives outside of the discipline-specific funding streams. TAC aims to provide catalyst funding for ideas and initiatives that have the potential to create transformative change for artistic disciplines, communities of artists and arts organizations and the arts sector at large. Proposals must demonstrate the potential for impact in the following defined categories: Market Development, New Models and Innovations, Exceptional Opportunities. 

 

Open Door Recipients (2015) 

 

Array Music

Arraymusic will capture new earned revenues by developing a digital platform and concert hall that is optimized to extend its content to worldwide audiences and a broader musical landscape.

 

Canadian Stage

Led by industry leaders and involving expert panelists, SPOTLIGHT FORUM will share tools and best practices for the next generation of live arts practitioners who are poised to take their work further afield. In addition to the professional development component, the project will include networking opportunities for the broader arts community, and the sharing of a comprehensive SPOTLIGHT FORUM report.

 

Expect Theatre

Expect Theatre will partner with The Toronto Fringe Festival and The Playwright’s Guild of Canada to create a new “digital theatre” to capitalize on the growing mainstream popularity of podcasts. The project will create opportunities for Toronto artists to reach digital audiences, as well as explore a new potential revenue stream for Toronto’s performing arts sector.

 

Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance

Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance (IPAA) will work with an Indigenous Protocols in Performance Consultant to oversee IPAA's work in developing resources to guide Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists through the intersections of ceremony and performance.

 

International Readings at Harbourfront

In June of 2016, IFOA, in partnership with the Writers' Union of Canada will host the first edition of a four-day bi-annual conference entitled "WRITE: The Canadian Writers Summit,” enabling professional development, public lectures, and numerous networking opportunities for the literary sector.

 

NIA Centre for the Arts

Funding will support Career Pathways for Young Creatives (CPYC), a multi-sectoral intergenerational approach to reducing income insecurity among marginalized and racialized young artists through mentorship, apprenticeships, paid-internships, job shadowing, and diverse income generation opportunities.

 

Ontario Presents

Ontario Presents will produce IAMA Toronto 2016, an international, performing arts, market development conference to be held November 10-12. The event will attract participants from across the globe and will include showcases, professional development, networking and a pre-conference institute to drive bi-lateral international relationships and career development.

 

Opera Atelier

Opera Atelier will embark on an exceptional international market development opportunity, staging a full production with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra during the 300th anniversary celebrations of the death of Louis XIV at The Opera Royal, Versailles.

 

Textile Museum

The TMC presents "Greater Toronto", an agile model for creation and presentation offering market development opportunities for Toronto artists to produce and showcase new creative practices in the context of two international events: New York City Design Week (NYCxDESIGN), Spring 2016 and the Istanbul Design Biennale, Fall 2016.

 

Volcano Productions

The Producers' Study Group will facilitate an ongoing investigation into theories and practice of producing the performing arts in the independent, non-venued sector in Toronto, its objective being to enhance the skills, knowledge, and preparedness of both working and emerging producers.

 

Watah Theatre

Watah's Professional Artist Development Initiative (PADI) is a year-long performance based residency, providing mentorship and career development to 12 emerging Black theatre practitioners from under-resourced communities.
