COVID-19 Statement for the Arts Community

TORONTO, March 12, 2020 - Toronto Arts Council understands that the outbreak of COVID-19 may present extraordinary challenges for artists and arts organizations in Toronto. Please be assured that TAC will work with artists and arts organizations to provide support and information throughout this time.

Toronto Arts Council advises arts organizations to monitor Toronto Public Health and follow its recommendations to maintain healthy workplaces and manage public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak.

As of March 12, public events run by the City of Toronto are proceeding and there is no recommendation or requirement that events in Toronto be cancelled.

The Government of Canada has released a helpful  guide for organizations presenting events. Included in the guide are both practical suggestions and best practices for holding safe events, and things to consider when deciding to proceed or cancel an event.

For TAC grant recipients:

With the outbreak of COVID-19, TAC is aware that grant recipient organizations may face extraordinary challenges.

For specific questions and to advise TAC of concerns, please contact your program manager.

Organizations or collectives may postpone or adjust projects affected by the COVID-19 outbreak without penalty from TAC.

Organizations receiving core funding will not be required to have replacement programming for events or activities that are delayed, changed or cancelled due to COVID-19.

Emergency Funding:

TAC does not have emergency funds available for organizations facing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19.

TAC will work with all levels of government to ensure that any emergency funding offered can be accessed by Toronto’s arts community. We will keep funded organizations apprised of opportunities to apply for financial relief.

Contact TAC:

Please note that TAC staff will remain available to answer your questions and provide updated information throughout the outbreak. Please contact us any time.
