Winner of the 2013 Toronto Arts and Business Award Announced
Last night, the Toronto Arts Foundation announced Sun Life Financial as the winner of the 2013 Toronto Arts and Business Award.
The award celebrates a company that has made an outstanding contribution to Toronto’s vibrant artistic and cultural life, and will be formally presented on June 27, 2013 as part of Toronto Arts Foundation Awards. The Toronto Arts and Business Award is a partnership between Business for the Arts, the Toronto Star and Toronto Arts Foundation.Sun Life Financial was selected by an outstanding panel of experts in the field of development and was comprised ofNichole Anderson, President and CEO of Business for the Arts, Randy Dalton, President, The Dalton Company Ltd., and Tenny Nigoghossian, Senior Arts Fundraiser.

This year, Sun Life was nominated by two outstanding organizations - Tafelmusik and Culture Days. “Sun Life Financial's lead sponsorship over the last two decades has committed over $1.2 million to ensure that Tafelmusik continues to share our music with millions nationally and internationally. This support has enabled Tafelmusik to offer affordable and accessible programming of over 50 performances and community outreach concerts each season in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, tour extensively in Canada and throughout the world, achieve critically-acclaimed, award winning recordings and TV broadcasts, and develop new media initiatives and artistic partnerships”, said Jeanne Lamon, music director of Tafelmusik .

The winners of the remaining four 2013 Toronto Arts Foundation awards, totaling $46,000, will be announced on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at The Mayor’s Arts Lunch, an outstanding event that welcomes the entire spectrum of Toronto’s creative community.
Each award winner will receive an original work of art commissioned by the Toronto Arts Foundation, and this year, Toronto-based multi-media artist Louise Noguchi was chosen to create the piece. Each finalist will also be photographed by Denise Grant Photography as part of the Finalists Portrait Series and featured online, courtesy of media sponsor, NOW Magazine.
